Assessment for selected master’s pathways

dMAT — Digital Master Assessment Test — measures general academic aptitude and its application to subject or academic problems. Its use depends on the programme or provider-defined pathway; it is not required of every master’s applicant.

Who is it for?

  • Applicants to programmes that require or accept a specified dMAT module.
  • Candidates checking a university’s master’s selection requirements.
  • Applicants covered by the current General Academic Module / APS guidance for India, subject to its conditions.

What does it assess?

The Core Module assesses general cognitive abilities. The selected specialist or General Academic Module assesses their application to relevant problems. It is an aptitude assessment, not evidence of German-language proficiency.

Format & modules

The assessment combines a Core Module with a specialist module or the General Academic Module, according to the applicable route. Current modules are administered in English. Check the provider instructions for the module you are required to take.

The subtest times form part of the Core Module, not additional time. Follow the current provider instructions rather than assuming every pathway has identical task content.

Current modules and pathways

  • General Academic Module — for candidates covered by the provider’s APS India requirements.
  • Data Science — the provider lists the master’s programme at the University of Göttingen.
  • Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering — listed for the MSc Battery Science and Technology in Engineering at RWTH Aachen.

For the applicable APS India route, the Core Module and General Academic Module are required together. Conditions and transitional arrangements apply. Consult the official guidance for your circumstances; this page does not determine admissions, APS or visa eligibility.

Results & validity

The certificate reports percentile ranks and dMAT scores. It is available in the participant portal when results are released and has indefinite validity. Universities decide how results are used and may set additional document requirements. Check release information for your specific test.

Before you register

Use the official dMAT/g.a.s.t. registration route for your pathway. Confirm the module, centre, deadline, fee and required identity documents/photo. The university’s requirements and, where relevant, the provider’s APS guidance must be checked separately.

Check current dates, fees, identification requirements and test-centre availability with the provider. An enquiry to CDI does not reserve an exam place.
